👩💻 How to use the chat on desktop
Start a New Conversation
- Go to Chat and click the + button.
- In the New chat modal, you can use two tabs:
- People — add people manually.
- Automatic membership — select Units and Roles. Both are required for a rule to apply.
- Use the preview to see who will be added.
- Click Add to create the chat.
You can use manual participants, automatic membership, or both. If someone is added both ways, the automatic rule takes precedence.
Automatic membership keeps a group chat in sync with your organisation. People who belong to selected units and have one of the selected roles are added automatically, and removed if their profile no longer matches.
On the member list, people added by the rule show an AUTO badge. They cannot be removed manually — change the rule instead. Members added automatically also cannot leave the chat on their own.
Note: In one-on-one chats you can’t add additional users later - to create a group chat, include at least 3 people when initiating.
Add Participants in a Group chat
-
You can add more users to an existing group chat.
